〈說謊的眼神〉(Lyin' Eyes)

今天下午在ATT用餐後，看見一個禿頭老男攙扶著一位嬌嗔豐滿的短裙馬靴辣妹下電扶梯，腦海中頓時響起這首〈說謊的眼神〉(Lyin' Eyes)。

親愛的你掩飾不了你那說謊的眼神

老鷹樂團(Eagles)這首〈說謊的眼神〉(Lyin' Eyes)大意是在描述亮麗的拜金女人嫁給有錢的老頭，一度墜入愛情和麵包間的掙扎，歌者卻質疑道妳還是從前的那個女孩嗎?還是會繼續出軌吧?

老鷹團員在《永遠不能的事》(Hell Freezes Over)的DVD中憶及他們還在洛杉磯打拼的時候，主唱格倫佛萊(Glenn Erey)和鼓手唐亨利(Don Henley)某晚去到當地的丹塔娜(Dan Tana)餐廳酒吧，看到一個年輕亮麗的女郎後面跟著一個又老又胖的有錢佬，當他們半帶笑意看著這對男女時，格倫佛萊說道：「你看她，她根本無法隱藏那說謊的眼神！」(Look at her, she can't even hide those lyin eyes!)，然後立刻拿起墊雞尾酒杯的紙巾，寫下此歌的歌詞。

倆人回到比佛利山莊特奧斯戴爾的住處後完成了此歌詞曲，唐亨利回憶說：「格倫佛萊寫下此歌絕大部分的歌詞，而我僅有些微的貢獻。」格倫佛萊則說：「這是個司空見慣的故事，我不想說是我寫了它，而是歌詞泉湧而出，毫無膠著，這是很難得且少見的寫歌經驗。」格倫佛萊只花了兩晚即完成〈說謊的眼神〉(Lyin' Eyes)的詞曲。

在紀錄片《老鷹樂團史》(History of the Eagles)中，唐亨利的說明則略有不同：「這是關於所有來到丹塔娜的美女，她們總會在晚上8點到那裡和我們這些搖滾樂手喝酒，直至午夜。然後她們必需回家，因為他們都是二奶或情婦(kept women)。」

此歌收錄在該團1975年發行的《某夜》(One of These Nights)專輯。為了因應當時電台通常不播放長度超過4分鐘的歌曲，還刻意刪減第二、三段的部分歌詞，由專輯原曲的6分22秒剪輯成3分58秒，以發行45轉單曲唱片。此曲獲得告示牌熱門百大的第2名及鄉村排行榜的第8名，也替老鷹樂團贏得了一座「最佳流行歌曲團體演唱」的葛萊美獎。〈說謊的眼神〉由格倫佛萊擔綱主唱及木吉他，唐亨利一樣是鼓手並合聲，伯尼利登(Bernie Leadon)負責主奏吉他與曼陀林，唐菲爾德(Don Felder)彈木吉他，貝斯手是阮帝邁斯納(Randy Meisner)，還有客串的鋼琴手吉姆諾曼(Jim Ed Norman)。

〈說謊的眼神〉屬於長篇的敘事歌曲，在木吉他的鄉村搖滾曲風裡，娓娓道出70年代的都市女孩遊走在感情遊戲裡，在愛情與榮華富貴之間的取捨與辛酸。光鮮亮麗的生活表面上讓人稱羨，但誰又知道豪門背後不被言說的寂寞與不甘？在格倫佛萊的歌聲中，輕柔而深刻地向我們拋出這些問題。追求物質抑或是擁抱愛情－背後的掙扎與矛盾永遠比外人看來的深刻與難測，而那種陷入感情遊戲的徬徨，也只有嚐過個中滋味的人，才懂吧！電視新聞又播放著咱們那精於算計的同一員和啾珠任緋聞，我想他們應該好好地聽這首歌！
